Associate Principal - High School JobID: 846 Date Posted: 5/17/2021 Date Available: 07/01/2021 SUMMARY OF THE POSITION La Center School District Associate Principals are expected to be a steward of the District's vision, mission, goals, and instructional initiatives. Building administrators are instructional leaders and are expected to spend the majority of their time, energy, and talents focused on the quality of education being offered at their schools. An instructional leader is one who understands the tremendous complexity of teaching and learning, and devotes the majority of the professional day planning and implementing initiatives to improve the quality of education in all aspects of their school. Instructional leaders observe instruction and provide ongoing feedback that is candid and powerful to improve student learning. THE LA CENTER SCHOOL DISTRICT We serve approximately 1,550 students in grades Pre-K through 12. The district comprises one comprehensive high school, a newly constructed middle school (scheduled to open in Fall 2021), an elementary school with a developmental preschool program, and a Home School Academy. We have amazing students who make impacts on the communities in which they live. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Creates a supportive learning environment that empowers students to reach their fullest potential in partnership with families, the community, staff and students to develop confident and self-reliant life-long learners who can thrive in a rapidly changing, more technologically advanced and diverse society As a member of the Leadership Team, contributes to the ongoing development of collaboration, shared leadership, and continuous improvement throughout the district/ Assists the principal with leadership, development, evaluation, and management of a culture of learning in the high school and the supervision of students and staff well-being Establishes and maintains a positive learning environment for all Supervises students at school and school-sponsored events during mornings, evenings, and weekends Provides for school safety Assists in the development and implementation of a data-driven building improvement plan for increasing student achievement Monitors, assists, and evaluates staff implementation of the building improvement plan and effective instruction and assessment Provides for effective management of staff and fiscal resources to accomplish student achievement goals Assists in the interview and selection process of building employees in coordination with district administration Participates in student IEP meetings and monitors implementation of programs Acts as a liaison between the school, law enforcement agencies and courts in student-related matters Assists in the coordination and supervision of student activities Promotes the use of technology in curriculum, instruction, communication and daily operations Prepares required records and reports accurately, completely and promptly Supervises maintenance of accurate well-organized student records Keeps necessary financial records, following approved accounting procedures Keeps current in educational issues with an awareness of research, reform, curriculum development, evaluation, and adoption Attends school board meetings; presents information when appropriate, attends other meetings as required Supervises and evaluates assigned staff in compliance with collective bargaining agreements and Washington State requirements Values staff, student, parent, and community input in creating a positive, respectful, and welcoming environment Uses team building and communication skills to build partnerships, respect and support learning Complies with all district policies and procedures Complies with the Professional Code of Conduct Depending upon capacity, this position may assume additional responsibilities related to attendance and assessment Other duties as directed for the success of our students LEADERSHIP KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES Current experience, knowledge, and commitment to the needs of young adults and maturing adolescents Knowledge of current teaching strategies and how to implement into schools and classrooms Ability to provide positive, collaborative and visionary leadership to staff, students and the community Ability to build, create, and maintain a culture that fosters collaborative relationships with students, staff and the community Leads effective data-driven decisions through the ability to seek and analyze relevant and current data and research complex information Proven ability to work collegially to solve problems, guide a team to accomplishment, and manage conflict in a positive and professional manner Successful experience as a strong facilitator skilled in leading discussions, meetings, and group facilitation with an emphasis on collegiality Expresses and communicates ideas clearly for different audiences in oral presentation and in written communication Models a high degree of professionalism in all circumstances Advanced ability to use technology as an effective communication, planning, and instructional tool Ability to set priorities, make difficult decisions and follow through Strong organizational, listening, speaking, and writing skills A positive attitude and high level of energy and enthusiasm Ability to attend school-sponsored evening and weekend activities and events Ability to provide appropriate and innovate supervision and leadership to the instructional program Ability to reach logical conclusions, make high quality decisions, and set priorities Successful experience responding to and engaging in a diverse community Demonstrated ability to work well with people, maintain positive working relationships, and solve problems A commitment to learning with staff and students Growth mindset MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training and Experience Possess or qualify for immediate issuance of a valid Washington State Administrative credential Master's Degree from an accredited college or university Successful completion of a thorough background check by the Washington State Patrol (including fingerprinting) at the applicant's expense PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Successful teaching experience at the high school level Previous experience with RTI, STEM, MTSS, CTE, and Special Education Previous experience leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of data-driven building improvement plans for increasing student achievement WORK ENVIRONMENT This position typically requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
