Job Description Job Description:\n\nOVERVIEW: The Certified
Surgical Assistant, under the general supervision of a Registered
nurse, performs a variety of routine direct and indirect patient
care activities within the established department policies and
procedures in the perioperative areas. In addition, the Surgical
Assistant is responsible for providing patient care equipment and
sterile re-processed goods to internal customers. This person will
support operating room staff with trouble shooting equipment in
partnership with Clinical Engineering and equipment vendors to
assist department operations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES: · Supports the philosophy, goals, and objectives
of Center. o Supports, and performs according to, approved policies
and procedures. o participate as a team member in support of the
total perioperative process. o Considers patient rights in
performance of job duties and responsibilities. · Contributes to
the progress and development of the approved QAPI Program. o
Supports risk management and participates in programs directed to
patient and staff safety. o Contributes to the quality management
process; identifies role and contributions upon request. o
Objectively evaluates suggestions, grievances, and processes to
identify opportunities to improve performance and quality of care.
· Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, and
co-workers. o Interactions are respectful and courteous. o
Communicate effectively and professionally using a translator when
necessary. o Documents that information received from the patient
are disseminated to the appropriate people or departments. ·
Maintains and promotes professional competence through continuing
education and other learning experiences. o Participates in
committees, conferences, and quality management activities. o Seek

responsibilities. o Objectively evaluates suggestions or criticisms

according to established policies and procedures. o Use correct
body mechanics in moving patients. o Use equipment according to
manufacturer's specifications and Center policy. · Maintains the
environment according to housekeeping and infection control
policies and procedures. o Follows housekeeping guidelines for
cleaning responsibilities. o Monitors contracted housekeeping
activities for correct cleaning methods. o Reports on any damaged
equipment discovered during routine cleaning. o Handles hazardous
waste according to Center policy. o Uses cleaning agents and
equipment according to safety, manufacturer, and Center standards.
o Performs preventive maintenance assignments according to
manufacturers' directions. o Monitors effectiveness of pest control
service. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory
