Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years minimum License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Critical thinking skills EKG rhythm interpretation Experience with cardiac drips, insulin drips, and heparin drips Peritoneal dialysis experience preferred Peripheral IV skills Experience with bipaps, high flow oxygen, and multiple oxygen delivery systems Experience with stroke and post-cardiac catheterization care Experience with tube feedings and NG/dobhoff tubes Description: The unit has 34 beds with a patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:4 to 1:5 during the day and 1:5 to 1:6 at night. There are 3 techs available when the unit is full. The unit is equipped with bipaps, high flow oxygen, vapotherm, Alaris pumps, cardiac drips, heparin drips, insulin drips, and peritoneal dialysis. Wound vacs are utilized in conjunction with wound care. Documentation is completed using a specific electronic health record system. Scheduling requires every other weekend commitment, with 3 shifts per week. Floating may be necessary between progressive care units or med-surg floors. Patient experience protocols include hourly rounding during the day and every 2-hour rounding at night. Communication tools are available in the unit to enhance patient engagement. Candidates are expected to possess advanced skills in ACLS. Procedures performed in this unit include peritoneal dialysis, thoracentesis, paracentesis, chest tube insertions, dobhoff/NG tube insertions, and central line dressing changes. The culture in this unit promotes teamwork and caring for patients as family. Self-scheduling is utilized, with schedules created every 4 weeks. Techs assist in patient care to enhance the overall experience. Most travelers tend to extend their assignments after the first contract period.
