GSM Transport company is growing and expanding its business. We are opening a new Intermodal branch in Nashville TN and are in need of operations manager. GSM Transport a leading intermodal drayage company located in the suburbs of Chicago, IL established in 2006 have grown to power 40 trucks servicing both the Chicagoland area and Midwest Region. We understand that time is crucial in this business and with our team values we do everything we can to provide our greatest customer service, sharp communication, up to date tracking and profitable lanes. For overweight drayage, we save our customers additional costs because we have modified trucks and the mandatory permits suitable for towns, counties and states for pulling overweight containers.


Job Description:

Primary purpose of the role:

The Nashville Branch Operations Manager is responsible for setting up, overseeing and controlling all operational activities of the branch; accountable for full collaboration of all branch employees to develop both tactical and strategic plans to establish a fully operational branch for trucking operations (Intermodal drayage, local cartage, etc), generate new accounts and service the business. Manage all financial responsibilities of the branch on a day-to-day basis. The Branch Operations Manager will continuously strive for maximum productivity to assume best use of all resources and fully adhere to all policies, standards and to federal, state and local laws.

The role requires entrepreneurial leadership skills, self-motivation, vision and ability to successfully drive change and motivate others. The ability to manage the drivers and the staff of the branch to ensure that they are appropriately resourced trained and that they carry out their responsibilities to the required standards. This role will be strongly financially incentivized for opening, development and growth of the GSM Transport Nashville TN branch.

Monitor, measure and report on all branch issues, opportunities, development plans and achievements, providing weekly and monthly progress reports to the company president and owner.


Key Responsibilities:

• Leadership role in providing a safe and secure environment for the branch employees.
  
• Responsible for overall branch P&L performance including Gross Profit, EBITA, DSO, timely billing, cost of sales, overhead costs & HR related costs.
  
• Provides strategic decision making, direction and leadership to the branch to ensure efficient, timely, and accurate processing of all work. This includes staying current on relevant industry changes, maintaining customer relationships and creating/maintaining the branch's budget.
  
• Responsible for hiring, training and development of all branch employees. Manages performance in accordance with the organizational policies, procedures and performance.
  
• Driver hiring, dispatching and compliance (with support from Safety) as well as coordinating with safety manager on DOT compliance (Trucks and Drivers)
  
• Motivates and develops staff to meet the current future needs of the branch and the company. Challenges others to develop as leaders, while serving as a role model and mentor.
  
• Develop and maintain a professional working relationship with customers, suppliers, service partners and agents.
  
• Responsible for the branch personnel's compliance with all company policies.
  
• Leadership role for inventory of and asset management of all GSM Transport owned & leased equipment
  
• Leadership role in ensuring compliance with all company and legal standards.
  
• Measures performance of branch employees on productivity, efficiency, & service using defined KPIs.
  
• Provides coaching and mentoring for employee development.
  
• Understands the customers' shipping needs, negotiates rates, find pain points and provide solutions to help the customer benefit from their supply chain.
  
  Required Skills:
  
  • Solid understanding of north American intermodal network
    
  • Comprehensive knowledge of intermodal drayage operations as it pertains to railroad ramps, rail control units, steamship containers, chassis pools, rail billings, and all accessorial related pricing and activities.
    
  • Strong background in all aspects of formulating, planning and implementing branch strategy.
    
  • Proven capabilities to handle short and medium-term branch build out of the business
    
  • Professional decision-making skills for fast paced changes to operational plans
    
  • Knowledge of asset based trucking operations management in all aspects
    
  • Ability to re-allocate resources at a moment s notice to service the customer
    
  • Strong communication skills in all media
    
  • Knowledgeable of DOT Compliance and truck driver HOS.
    
  • Understanding of federal regulations that pertain to international import and export shipments as well as domestic motor carrier regulations.
    
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
