JOB SUMMARY/SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care administered to meet patient care needs. Under the direction of the CNO. Responsible for daily operations of assigned unit, supervision of assigned unit personnel and utilization of the nursing process and age specific criteria in delivery of patient care. Has 24/7 responsibility of overall management/staffing of nursing unit; makes decisions that require sound clinical judgment and collaborates with physicians, families, and staff. Interviews, assists with hires, evaluations, and monitors staff for compliance with policies, procedures and Quality Improvement standards. Subject to on call.
Assigns and monitors patient care according to age specific needs, assessment, acuity needs, plan of care, and competency of assigned available personnel.
Provides direct patient care.
Participates in training; evaluates employee performance; and participates in counseling, reprimands, disciplinary actions, and dismissals for assigned personnel.
Responds to complaints and incidents, conducts investigations, takes corrective action, and prepares documentation.
Evaluates, recommends, and orders adequate supplies and equipment necessary for delivery of quality patient care.
Evaluates, interprets, and implements hospital and nursing policies and procedures for assigned unit and recommends changes as needed.
Informs CNO of patient, staff, and physician issues and satisfaction.
Provides clinical instruction in field of expertise as necessary to include patient and staff teaching and discharge planning.
Evaluates, interprets, and implements hospital and nursing policies and procedures and recommends changes as required
Recognizes and participates in activities which foster personal and professional growth
Ensures the proper segregation and safe disposal of hazardous pharmaceutical waste.
Develops and maintains a positive work environment and the overall teamwork of the nursing unit.
Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
Conducts Nurse Leader rounding on patients to improve patient outcomes and patient satisfaction.
Achieve 75th percentile for departmental HCAHPS scores.
Maintains departmental compliance with Joint Commission, State, and Regulatory Agency Standards.
Completion of a diploma, associate, or baccalaureate degree in nursing required.
Additional educational preparation in administrative techniques is desirable.
LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse as approved by the Tennessee Board of Nursing for practice in the state of Tennessee.
BLS certification must be obtained within the orientation period, and certification must be kept current while in this position.
ACLS and PALS certification preferred.
Additional certifications/competencies may be required.
At least 2 years continuous, current hospital nursing experience preferred.
Proficiency in current practices and techniques In specific area of clinical expertise as acquired through clinical experience
Previous management or supervisor experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Skill and proficiency in the principles, concepts, and techniques of the nursing profession as normally acquired through the completion of a diploma, associate, or baccalaureate degree in nursing.
Knowledge and ability to demonstrate nursing and management skills according to current hospital policies and procedure as acquired through 3 months probationary period
Communication skills needed for frequent contact with unit staff, medical staff, administration, other hospital departments, and community agencies.
Relates effectively to patients and their families.
Uses proper channels of communication.
Contributes to a positive work environment and the overall team effort of the department.
Assigns, monitors, and evaluates the performance of unit staff.
Serves as a role model.
Demonstrates leadership and teaching ability.
Maintains good physical and emotional well-being.
Ability to perform frequent moderate to heavy lifting and transporting of patients and equipment.
Prolonged periods of standing and walking on a continuous basis.
OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
