    What You ll Do
    As a product Design Engineer, you ll be part of our Engineered Fastening team located in Hopkins, MI.
    You ll get to:
    Apply engineering principals to design, modify or develop product, testing and standards. Utilize established procedures, processes and standards to create designs, which meet product specifications. Select appropriate processes to meet design requirements. Create design proposals to meet specified requirements. Carrie out novel or complex assignments requiring the development of new applications for principals and processes. Be able to plan and execute projects independently as a project team leader. This individual is experienced in our industry and has a proven record of developing innovative solutions to problems.
    Key Responsibilities
    • Conducts analytical studies on engineering proposals to develop design for products.
    • Uses computer-assisted engineering software and equipment.
    • Analyzes data and calculation results to determine feasibility and robustness of design proposal.
    • Analyzes product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs, which can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods.
    • Prepares or directs preparations of product or system layout and detailed drawings, and standards.
    • Supports and coordinates manufacturing or building of prototype product or system. Plans and develops experimental test programs.
    • Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
    • Evaluates engineering test results for possible application of products to other uses.
    • Prepares technical reports for use by engineering or management personnel for long- and short-range planning or for use by sales engineering personnel in sales or technical services activities.
    • Determines nature of technical problems and possible solutions, such as product redesign, substitution of material or processes, or rearrangement of parts or subassemblies.
    • Analyzes indicated and calculated test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives, and modifies or adjusts product or equipment designs to meet specifications.
    • Supports cost reduction proposals and investigates proposals from other sources, compiles appropriate information, makes recommendations for action and checks on results obtained.
    • Creates preliminary designs using CAD software.
    • Acts as a supporting resource to others in the technology and applications group.
    • Applies diversified knowledge of engineering principals, practices and protocols to the identification of novel solutions.
    • Supports multiple or complex projects.
    • Ensures compliance with established document control procedures.Who you Are

      Experience
      • Cold Metal Forming experience preferred
      • Product/Design Engineering
        • Demonstrates ability and passion for product engineering
        • Fastener or similar Industry
          • Preferable but not essential
          • Analytical
            • Creating test plan / matrices (anova full factorial design) preferable
            • CAD
              • 3D CAD essential
              • Solidworks preferable
              • Creation / understanding of 3D parametric assembly models preferable
              • From test matrixSkills and Education
                • Bachelor of Science in appropriate engineering discipline (BSME preferred).
                  • Ability to communicate with and understand the needs of non-technical internal and external clients.
                  • Ability to organize, plan and execute complex projects and processes needed to design and validate solutions that meet designated performance specifications.
                  • General Knowledge of materials, processes, machining and tolerancing.
                  • Background in creative problem-solving.
                  • Ability to use independent judgement to adapt and modify concepts and approaches to specific projects.
                  • General understanding of budgetary guidelines.
                  • Decisive and confident, open and candid with the ability to energize others.
                  • Strong sense of urgency and personal commitment.
                  • Excellent team player.
                  • Possesses excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
                  • Ability to drive change in products and processes.
                  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional/trade publications; establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies.Environment, Health & Safety and Quality
