Process Engineer - Benton, KentuckyAbout 3A Composites:3A Composites is a leading player in segments such as composite panels for high-quality facades and display applications. In the United States, its best-known brands are Alucobond--, Dibond--, Gatorfoam--, Sintra--, and Fome-Cor--.Purpose of role:The Process Engineer leads planning and execution of capital and cost improvement projects in coordination with site resources.--Responsible for timely, professional completion of projects that meet objectives and spending at or under budget.--This Engineer supports extrusion processes in the facility.--This position also has specific focus on process data collection and analysis targeted at quality improvements; thus reducing scrap levels, increasing yields, and improving productivity. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:* Analyze and evaluate department manufacturing processes, systems, equipment, and materials in terms of their associated cost, safety, quality, and output factors.* Support development and implementation of strategies for process improvement, and evaluate impact of such changes.* Monitor existing systems and develop new performance tracking system as needed for process and quality improvements.--Includes process capability studies and specification development and process/quality improvement initiatives. * Participate in customer complaint system with the goals of prevention of future occurrences and complaint avoidance. Includes efforts to collect and analyze process data.* Coordinate the design and development of new manufacturing processes, systems, equipment, and materials to more effectively contribute to short and long term economic objectives. This could include formulations development and optimization from lab to production scale trials. * Work directly with machine operators to identify needs and develop solutions. Train operators on associated product and process changes.* Assist engineering, manufacturing, quality, and maintenance personnel in problem solving activities and root cause analysis related to assigned area for product support.* Implement and support lean manufacturing principles.* Prepare evaluations of and justifications for the procurement of new machines and work equipment.* Manages projects start to finish and ensures efficient use of labor, capital, and other resources.* Determines project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements.* Determines project schedule by reviewing scope of project, calculating time requirements and sequencing project activities.* Work with maintenance personnel on equipment modifications and preventative/predictive maintenance to ensure reliability.* Controls expenditures within limitations of project budget.* Partners with EHS for site regulatory compliance.* Promote worker safety by actively assessing activities on a constant basis to ensure no unsafe actions or results will occur. * Stress safe working practices to associates.* Provides and maintains drawings and other needed documentation and assists with identification of spare parts.Qualifications, Education, and Experience* Four year degree in mechanical, chemical, plastics, or similar engineering or technical degree.--Experience in plastic extrusion processes and/or PVC formulation development is preferred. * Strong communication skills and problem solving skills.* Ability to work in a lab and conduct bench scale trials and sample analyses independently.* Must be hands-on in the manufacturing area, spending considerable time with production personnel. * Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.--AutoCAD and SAP experience is a plus.* Six Sigma Black or Green belt preferred.* CPM preferred.
