Job Description:
Position Summary The Counselor reports to the Director of EOC
and provides educational, career and financial aid counseling to
assist primarily lower-income and first-generation adults in
selecting programs of study and appropriate post-secondary
institutions. Grant Funded position. Continuation contingent upon
availability of funding. Essential Functions -Ability to
efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software
(Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and SungardHE Banner. -Ability to
communicate effectively and appropriately. -Ability to work as a
team member. -Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and
information. -Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate
manner with diverse populations, the University community and the
public. -Ability to detect and correct grammatical and spelling
errors in written correspondence. -Ability to maintain files
accurately, in paper and in software programs. -Ability to handle
multiple tasks simultaneously. -Ability to administer and interpret
career assessment instruments. -Ability to interpret various kinds
of educational programs and courses of study available at
post-secondary institutions within the target area. -Ability to
work evenings. -Ability to effectively counsel students. -Ability
to follow instructions and procedures. -Ability to visit outreach
centers located throughout the program target area. -Ability to
participate in state and regional professional associations.
